You could've got the cat plenty of things to play with, claw on, could've cut its nails, could've put claw caps on it. All we had to do was yell at my cat a few times and he learned the bed and coach arent for scratching. The only time I've ever had a problem with cats scratching furniture was at my dad's house because they didn't do anything to stop the cat or offer him an alternative. This is really true.... with any pet cat dog if you supply them with enough stimulant they won't do these and if they do who cares that couch won't love you like they do that couch won't build a bond with you they will I have 4 cats 7 dogs and all of them are rescues. They say cats pick their owner. If your cat bites, scratches or hisses at you then you may not be the one for them...if they are scratching up your furniture, they may be stressed or frustrated. I do not punish my cats but they know “no” in a disapproving voice means something. I am not an expert but have had cats for over 40 years and this is what I have learned
