This isn’t that new, the factory I worked had one of these when they were new on the market. We couldn’t use ours with damp wood it didn’t have the bypass mode they speak of, and costs about $100–200 if the stop deploys. Granted cheaper than hand surgery, but if deployed by accident very expensive! So these actually exist. We had them in the shop back in high school. You have to always make sure the wood is completely dry and free of any metal, or else the blade shoots down under the table and chews throw the teeth… often throws off your table alignment. You don’t want this to go off unless a body part accidentally touches the blade. We had to pass all safety tests before using any machine, but the one time it did go off that student was lucky for the safety precautions these types of machines have. Don’t be so quick to judge, serves the same purpose as an airbag in your car. You should always drive safe, but accidents can happen.
