I don’t mean to support illegal animal trade. But if there is a huge demand for these tortoises, then Madagascar government and NGOs should pool their resources to cultivate them in farms. This would help in legalizing the trade. It’s not like customers love indulging in illegal activities. It’s just their admiration for beautiful pets. People have no qualms to vouch for cats and dogs who can literally if their mood tells them to, can bite oneself any moment. But when about turtles, people just lose their minds. If even a quarter of the money spent on conserving them would be spent on rearing them for sale, the world would be a better place
