I’ve had declawed cats. They were perfectly happy and healthy. The only real issue with declawing is doing it later in life. It does seem to bother older cats for several months, but the 2 I had declawed around 3–4 months old were back to playing in less than a week. They were so active, that my vet recommended that I restrict their activity by keeping them in a spare bedroom with nothing to jump on and off of. As long as the vet is competent, and the owner follows the aftercare instructions, it will heal just fine. I would rather buy new furniture than to declaw my cats. But I don’t have to do that, my leather furniture survives because I choose to take my time with the cats to teach them. Maybe people need to realize a pet isn’t a fashionable accessory and demands time.
